2006 erregte der Erwerb eines leerstehenden Hotels im Stadtzentrum durch die Stadt Delmenhorst zur Verhinderung eines angeblich geplanten Verkaufs an den Hamburger Rechtsanwalt Jürgen Rieger (NPD) überregionales Aufsehen. Dieser hatte vorgegeben, dort ein Tagungszentrum für rechtsradikale Kreise einrichten zu wollen. Die Stadt hat mit Hilfe von Spenden in Höhe von einigen Millionen Euro der Bürger das Objekt gekauft. Im Juli 2008 wurde von der Stadt beschlossen, das Hotel und einige andere benachbarte Gebäude (Delmeburg, Wasserwerk, AOK) abzureißen und das gesamte Areal neu zu entwickeln. Der Abriss erfolgte im Frühjahr 2009. Im Moment ist offen, was mit der Fläche des Hotels geschehen soll, zurzeit ist dort eine Grünfläche.
